TITANS head coach Tony Yapp has labelled his side's performance during Saturday's 38-3 drubbing at Redruth as 'unacceptable' and admitted their quest for a top two finish was now an impossible one.

Titans were outscored six tries to nil by their Cornish counterparts at Hellfire Corner and Yapp said their defence and set-piece was left wanting.

He said: "If we were to make a push for a top two finish a win on Saturday against Redruth was a must.

"Not only did we lose but we also allowed Redruth to leap frog us into forth position in the league and with it any realistic chance of us breaking into the top two.

"Despite a lot of players being unavailable on Saturday, we still had a side you'd expect at the very least to have a real go at Redruth and put their hands up for a starting spot when players return from injury and university, but not only did we lose, our performance on Saturday wasn't acceptable.

"With the exception of just a few players we were found wanting right across the board.

"Our set piece wasn't anywhere near good enough and we allowed the Redruth pack to control the pace of the game and control of the ball.

"Last week we see a real gritty defensive effort, but this week it was nowhere to be seen we had had a couple of good defensive sets but too often we soaked tackles and this allowed them to get momentum.

"This week will show the true character of the players, training is going to be tough, because as we all agreed after the game, that was not a performance you'd normally associate with the Titans, so we'll be going back to the drawing board and making sure we don't get a repeat performance again this week.

"We hope to have a couple of guys back from injury this week, but are likely to be without our university players as they will be taking on Durham in their BUCS semi-final, in which we'd like to wish them the best luck."
