National 2 South
Exmouth 15, Taunton Titans 40

TAUNTON Titans wrapped up 2016 with another positive result, as they came away from basement side Exmouth with a comfortable victory.

Exmouth are marooned 11 points adrift at the bottom of National 2 South after this result, and yet for a spell in the second half they looked superior - though the visitors certainly deserved the win.

The hosts took the lead through a penalty, but the Titans' response was rapid and ruthless - Connor Harbison crossing and Gary Kingdom converting for 7-3.

A second try followed five minutes later, Fijian Ratu Vakalutukali making it two scores for the back row, and with Kingdom adding the extras it was 14-3.

Titans' centre and captain Nick Mason led the way for his side in effectively putting the game to bed with two more tries before half time, both converted by Kingdom, to take the visitors in at the interval 28-3 up and with the try bonus point already secured.

The hosts were not for lying down though, and shook the Titans by scoring two tries after the restart through Harvey Ridgeway and Ollie Rice, Rice's converted, to bring to score to 28-15.

Exmouth were on the hunt for more and the away side were too error-prone to extend their lead - until a breakaway and a second try for Vakalutukali, again converted, gave them breathing space.

And Titans winger Aron Struminski crossed right at the death, going over in the corner, for a final score of 40-15 to the visitors, allowing them to consolidate fourth place in the league going into 2017.
