Somerset RFU Under-18s Cup

Taunton Colts 34, Yeovil Colts 14

TAUNTON Colts overcame a well-organised and determined Yeovil Colts side this Saturday to secure their place in this year’s Somerset RFU Under 18’s Cup Final.

In front of a sizeable crowd Taunton looked the more composed side in the early exchanges, despite playing into the blustery wind, and they were first to score through a Callum Lane try after 8 minutes.

Midway through the half Taunton extended their lead when scrum half Mitch Baker took a quick tap penalty and dived over, but Yeovil fought back immediately when they were awarded a penalty try after repeated infringements from the home team.

Taunton stretched away from their visitors before the half through two superb tries from winger Joe Clark to go into the break 22-7 to the good.

The hosts struck again early in the second half as flanker Ed Stock powered over from close range to extend the lead, but they then had to endure a sustained Yeovil onslaught that resulted in a fine try for the visitors.

Taunton took control of the remainder of the game, enjoying the bulk of the territory and possession, and closed out the scoring with a superb passage of play that set Ed Stock free to score his second try of the day.

They will face face last year’s runners-up Weston Hornets at Bridgwater Rugby Club in the final on April 23.
