HAVING defeated one newly-promoted side last weekend, Taunton Titans are hoping to repeat the trick as they head to Bristol to take on Old Redcliffians on Saturday (3pm).

The Brislington-based hosts won National League 3 South West last season, but received a rude awakening on the opening day as they were beaten 58-10 by Redruth.

Taunton, meanwhile, came from behind to see off Broadstreet 41-21 at Hyde Park, scoring six tries in the process.

Last weekend's matchday squad included five debutants and two returning players, and head coach Tony Yapp admitted after the game that his selection headaches will only increase as various other players return from injury.

“Everyone got through the game in one piece and we’ve got players like Sam Prior and Ben Oliphant-Thompson to come back, while Nick Mason isn’t far away from a return," he said.

“If you are going to do well you need those selection headaches, as if selection is easy it means there is not a lot of pressure on those who are in the side.”

Elsewhere, Taunton Warriors begin their Somerset Three South campaign with a visit to Minehead Barbarians 3rds on Saturday.

Taunton Colts, who enjoyed great success last season, travel to North Petherton to get their league campaign underway.
