TAUNTON Titans head coach Tony Yapp has urged his side to “show London Irish Wild Geese what we are really about” at the Commsplus Stadium tomorrow.

The Titans were beaten 45-38 in the reverse fixture in November, about which Yapp said: “We didn’t do ourselves justice up there and a poor start left us too much to do.

“I will certainly be reminding the players of our defending up there, which wasn’t acceptable, but we have prepared well and we have to show them what we are about on our own turf.”

The Titans are still targeting the top three and 100 points in National 2 South, and should be fresh on Saturday after three weeks without a game.

“It has been frustrating, but it can be nice to have a bit of a break,” Yapp said.

“We have been on a bit of a roll since Christmas, and confidence comes flooding back when you’re winning games.”

Yapp also backed versatile forward Dan Frost to make a success of his second crack at Championship rugby with Cornish Pirates.

Frost picked up the player of the month award during his first loan spell with the Penzance-based club in December and has now returned for the remainder of the season.

While admitting the departure represents a blow to the Titans, Yapp was pleased to have helped Frost - who can play in the front row or at flanker - fulfil his ambition of playing at a higher level.

“At the start of the season I told Dan I felt he’d be better staying with us and playing week in, week out to help him mature as a player,” Yapp said.

“I had promised him that if an opportunity to play higher up came along I wouldn’t stand in his way, so he’s had a few games with the A team at Exeter Chiefs and the loan spell with Pirates.

“All young lads want to play at the highest level they can, so this will now be a good taste for him of what is required to play in the Championship in terms of the commitment.

“I would love to have him back next year, but he showed in his last spell that he is good enough to play at that level so we’ll see how he goes.”

The last couple of matches have seen centre Ollie Carter introduced to the Titans backline, with Yapp pleased to have secured his services.

“He is based at 40 Commando in the Marines and has played at a high level before for Cardiff Met University, so we invited him down to train with us and he’s impressed,” Yapp said.

“It’s good to have him on board and he will be with us until the end of the season.”

Carter may help fill the void soon to be left by captain Nick Mason, who is one of three Titans players - alongside front row forwards Connor Baker and Isaac Dalton - jetting off to play domestic rugby in New Zealand after tomorrow's game.

The Titans kick off at 2.30pm, to allow fans the chance to watch France v England in the Six Nations afterwards.

Their match at Henley Hawks, postponed last weekend, will be played next Saturday, March 17.

Taunton Wanderers can wrap up the Somerset 3 South title with a win at home to Cheddar Valley 2nds, while the Colts host Penzance in the National Under-18 Cup, so tomorrow is certainly a big day at Hyde Park.

WIVELISCOMBE’S home league fixture against Weston-super-Mare 2nds fell victim to the weather conditions last weekend, as did the 2nd XV’s game at Tor 2nds, writes Roger Bellamy.

The 1st XV fixture will now take place on March 31, and hopefully weather conditions will remain favourable for the remainder of the season, as the free weekends are almost all accounted for.

Wivey have six league fixtures remaining, four at home and two away.

Lying in second position in the Somerset Premier table, they will need to be on top form for the rest of the campaign if they are to secure promotion.

Table-toppers Gordano look likely to hold on to top spot, while Bath team Avon have a game in hand and are in third place.

They have yet to visit Wivey, and this could prove the decisive game.

Promoted teams are likely to go north, to Western Counties North.

The second-placed team in Somerset Premier will probably play second in the Gloucester Premier (currently Barton Hill) for the second promotion spot.

Wiveliscombe’s form has been good over recent weeks, and they will be hoping to continue this over their remaining games.

WELLINGTON, meanwhile, saw their home match against Torrington called off on Saturday.

The Cornwall/Devon table toppers will hope to return to action this weekend as they welcome sixth-placed Withycombe (2.30pm).

Welly are a point ahead of second-placed Penryn with a game in hand, and will be eager to avoid a slip-up on their own patch.

Wellington 2nds head to Crewkerne in Somerset 1 (2.30pm).
