THERE are two ways of looking at the result of last Saturday’s result of the Titans’ game against their visitors Tonbridge Juddians, when the Cider Men were demolished 26-66, writes Dick Macey

If you looked at it as a horror story then you might still be wondering if it is yet time to come out from under the duvet and come back into the real world or (and I am now of this mind-set), full of admiration for what is undoubtedly the most accomplished team that has visited Taunton this season.

TJs’ came up this season into National League 2 (South) having been crowned champions last season of National 3 London and the South East.

They began the weekend’s game at such a pace that they were 17 points up inside 20 minutes and never let up.

With the Titans’ now notoriously slow start being badly exposed by such a motivated outfit, the home side’s game plan went straight out of the window and they were playing catch-up from minute one - a frustrating exercise.

The Taunton boys were chasing shadows throughout as the TJs’ swift running and elusive backs tore them apart and made them look foolish - not a happy afternoon.

This coming Saturday, the final game of the 17/18 season sees the Titans travel up to Coventry to take on relegated Broadstreet, and the hope is that the Taunton side’s confidence is not too dented after this mauling.

It has still been an excellent season with fourth place the finishing berth, 1,000 points in the “for” column, a wonderful support base that have shown their commitment throughout and a stadium the envy of many sides even up to Championship level.

Time to take a deep breath and look forward with some optimism.
