Taunton travel to Kent-based Westcombe Park tomorro for another crucial afternoon of national league rugby action. After announcing ambitious plans for a £1.5m building development, bottom of the table Westcombe Park will be fighting for their national league lives, and could prove a potential banana skin.

Coach Tony Yapp said: “We're still 11 points above the drop zone ourselves, so there's no room for complacency to be honest.

“However a win on Saturday should probably make us safe, taking the pressure off a bit for the last four games.

“The lads did a great job to beat Redruth, but Westcombe had a good win themselves at Hertford in their last outing, and I'm taking nothing for granted.

“Our medical team sorted out a few niggling player injuries during the week off and I'm hopeful we'll be selecting from a full squad this week.”

Taunton will learn this week if they have succeeded in their application to the RFU to register Taunton Titans RFC as a new club playing out of Hyde Park next season.

Taunton RFC committee member Chris Marsh has been spearheading the application work.

He said: “It's really important for the wellbeing of Taunton rugby that we're successful with our bid.

“Approval of our plans means that our current 2nd XV and 3rd XV teams will not only be able to continue to compete in their respective leagues, but could also progress up the league levels without restriction, which is not possible currently.

“Once we have official sanction, we can also launch the ambitions plans we have to develop the Titans into a team to fly the flag for Taunton in the higher levels of national league rugby.”
