Taunton’s national league clash with Shelford on Saturday is now of even further significance following their surprise 39-20 defeat at Westcombe Park last weekend.

Disappointed coach Tony Yapp said: “Our trip to the capital really wasn’t a good day – it was a wasted opportunity.

“We should have won against the bottom side in the league, and now we must up our game considerably to beat Shelford.

“Coming from two scores down to beat Redruth in our last home game was a great performance.

“I’m expecting nothing less from the lads this week. It’s vital we now step up and show the same collective spirit and character.

“Fan support was immense when we beat Redruth and we’ll need them to turn out in force and get behind the boys again this week.

“With just four fixtures left to play this is a big game and should be a cracker for the spectators.”

Shelford’s recent bonus point win over Hertford was the eighth victory from their last nine outings, confirming them as an in-form team.

Taunton Chairman Pete Stone joined Yapp in asking for ‘Fan Power‘ on Saturday.

Mr Stone said: “There’s a real buzz about the club at the moment with our other teams doing really well and a big crowd and a win over Shelford on Saturday would really add the icing to the cake.”

Kick-off at Hyde Park is 3pm.
