MINEHEAD Under-11s played an away fixture against two Wellington teams on Sunday.

Initially the Minehead side competed well with some excellent tackling by Jack Lewis and Ethan Carr setting the standard.

Late in the half Minehead kicked through but failed to chase and paid the price as it was caught in space and Wellington ran wide to beat Mineheads defensive line.

With team were clearly shaken by this score they conceded two more tries before the end of the half. Wellington began the second half driving at the centre of the Minehead defence.

Only stalwart defence and good counter rucking kept them at bay. Eventually the defence was broken.

This score rallied Minehead who went on the attack with some great interplay and movement to frustrate the opposition. Henry Murrell found himself on the wing, with three players to beat he kicked over them.

The ball stopped short of the try line and was fielded by a Wellington player who was immediately tackled and Minehead cleared the ruck of Reece Hollingsworth to pick and drive over.

Minehead faced a second Wellington side after a short break. Buoyed by their score in the previous game they went on the attack.

Lawrence Sandy outpaced the defence to finish a sweeping play which went from one side of the pitch to the other and then back again.

With their open play Minehead left themselves exposed to counter attack and Wellington capitalised three times. However with endeavour go rewards and Ethan Carr sped over for Minehead.

In the second half the team were now playing their best ruby of the day.

Reducing their errors to stop the counter attacks and pressuring the opposition into making more mistakes. Alistair Hilton scored taking a pop pass at speed to break a desperate tackle.

With Minehead camped on the Wellington line, Oliver Breth-erton spotted space as the defence was drawn in by several rucks and he darted past the covering defenders.

With time running out Minehead launched one last effort. When held up just short, Reece Hollingsworth drove over close to resulting ruck.
