Somerset Colts League

Nailsea and Backwell 33 Wellington 12

Wellington colts travelled to Nailsea and Backwell to renew rivalries carried over from last season’s league and cup encounters.

Early pressure from Nailsea disrupted Wellington's attack and led to them being awarded a penalty in their own half, which they capitalised upon to turn into a strong attacking move.

Initially great Wellington defence kept Nailsea at bay but after multiple attempts they eventually an early seven point lead.

From the restart the red and blacks applied pressure through multiple attacking phases, which initially proved fruitless - however good defence led to possession returning to Wellington who scored through a well worked try through Declan Morgan.

The rest of the first-half was very challenging for Wellington who suffered four injuries - and continued pressure finally told as Nailsea took two further chances to go into half-time 21-5 up.

Nailsea crossed twice more after the break, but with only minutes to go, the Wellington squad were still challenging their opponents and following very good attacking play by winger Benedict Monteiro, they were awarded a penalty just inside the Nailsea half.

A kick to touch followed by a great line out led to a really well worked try from Finn Homer.

The extras were taken by Jamie Hodgson to leave the final score at 33-12
