Wellington lost just 12-10 to North Petherton in a very tight encounter which banished the memory of their heavy defeat by Bude seven days earlier.

Petherton started well, driving Wellington back to their 22 and eventually the pressure told with forwards and backs combining well to score a converted try.

From the restart Petherton kept the pressure on and would have scored but for a knock on.

Ben Williams made two good runs on the wing but it was Petherton who next after good forward work let their backs run and score a well worked try.

Petherton kept the pressure on, taking two against the head, but Wellington held firm with a fine mark called from winger Anthony Gill just before half time.

Wellington stepped up a few gears and from the restart Matt Parsons took an interception on his five yard line and fed Robin Trott who ran the length of the pitch before being stopped five yards short of the try line.

The Wellington forwards then went over from a ten yard scrum and the try was claimed by Chris Kitto. Mark Nichols missed the conversion.

The restart kick failed to reach ten yards and from the resulting scrum Wellington drove 20 yards.

Petherton cleared but centres Luke Brown and Nichols worked with the forwards well and Welly won one against the head.

From the resulting play Kitto took the ball from a well worked move and strolled over.

Matt Parsons was unlucky with the conversion, hitting the upright.

Petherton missed a penalty after a Welly infringement but time was running out.

Wellington threw everything into the final few minutes of the game and went through several phases of play all in the Petherton half but eventually a visiting player got a boot to the ball and kicked to touch, ending the game.
