Wellington’S last game of the season saw them control the game but letting Tiverton into the game with unforced errors.

Welly’s first try came from a break by Matt Parsons who split the defence and fed the centres; Matt Taylor touched down and Parsons converted.

Tiverton converted a penalty but Wellington kicked into the home half and were awarded a 10 yard penalty. The forwards secured the ball and Craig Shore charged over for an unconverted try.

Tiverton then scored wide out after good forward work let the backs run and good handling saw them cross for an unconverted try. Will McKegney slotted a penalty. On the stroke of half-time, Tiverton scored under the posts after a mix-up in the Wellington defence, and duly converted.

The second half was all Wellington and, from the start, their forwards drove to within 10 yards of the Tiverton line and were awarded a penalty. Parsons caught the home side napping with a quick tap and darting through to score and McKegney converted.

The visitors kept the pressure on and from a driving maul Rob Maugham emerged with the ball and charged over and McKegney converted.

Tiverton did have a few attacking chances but these were met with solid defence and eventually Wellington had a line at some 15 yards from the home side try line. A good catch-and-drive from the forwards saw them cross the line and Tim Jenkinson dotted down.

From a scrum on their 22, Tiverton elected to run the ball but McKegney took a good interception and scored wide out and then made an excellent conversion kick.

As full-time approached the visitors were still on the front foot but a good interception from the Tiverton centre caught the Wellington players wrong-footed and ran in under the post for a consolation try.
