Somerset Premier
Wiveliscombe 1st XV 25, Weston-super-Mare 2nd XV 35

WESTON secured their 13th league victory of the season in a golden spell in which they crossed for three tries in a 15-minute period early in the game, writes Roger Bellamy.

The Seasiders showed why they are placed second in the league by playing some expansive rugby, and the home team struggled to deal with the visitors' pace.

Three quarters Oliver Carton, Hugh Morgan and Chris Young scored those early tries which were all unconverted from wide out, for a 15-0 lead.

To compound the home side's problems they lost a back row forward, red carded for a high tackle.

Wiveliscombe regained some composure and a Hugh Kelly try, together with a penalty from Alex Westcott, put them on the scoreboard and back at the game, trailing 15-8.

However, the hosts' 14 men were then put under pressure close to their own line, and Weston were awarded a penalty try to increase their lead to 22-8 at half time.

Wiveliscombe took the honours in the second half, outscoring Weston by three tries to two, but basic errors and wrong decisions would cost the home team dearly.

The deficit was reduced to seven points at one point in the second period, with Wivey crossing for tries through Ali Vivian and Jake Sharland.

A penalty try was also awarded to the home team, while Weston's second-half tries came from Matt Watkins and Gareth Kingscot.

With the score at 32-25 to Weston, Wivey were looking at two losing bonus points, but this was reduced to one when a needless penalty was again given away and Chris Young converted with the last kick of the game.

WIVEY proved too strong for the home team and ended up comfortable winners.
