WIVELISCOMBE had to work very hard to retain their unbeaten record in the Somerset One League being pushed all the way by the Bath team.
Walcot started strongly with their backs causing problems for Wivey. The visitors were caught out twice when the home No10 Nathan Ascott punted over the visitors defence to score himself 5-0 and from a similar kick the homeside set up good position on Wivey’s line for home scrum half David Gaye to dive over 10-0.
Wivey settled down after 20 minutes and began to put some decent moves together, Tom Chaffey in particular began to find some gaps and was rewarded with a fine individual try to give the visitors hope 10-5. James Escott converted to close the gap to the three points 10-7.
Wivey had the edge in the second period and added another two tries. The first was another individual effort from the visitors vice captain, Tom Chaffey 10-12. Right wing Dan Clarice then pounced on a loose ball to score a try on the blindside to clinch the game.
