Tribute Somerset 1: Wiveliscombe 21, Coombe Down 0
WIVELISCOMBE left it until the final quarter of this encounter to secure a hard earned victory as Coombe proved worthy opponents and their solid defence held strong for most of the game, writes Roger Be.
Playing up the slope in the first half, Wivey started well enough and were rewarded with a Matt Ellis try as the prop went over from a set penalty move. Gareth Bellamy converted.
Wivey had the edge in possession and territory but could not add to their score for the remainder of half. Coombe Down had one very good chance when they created space for their right wing but a great covering tackle from Tom Chaffey denied the visitors a try.
Playing down the slope in the second period Wivey created several chances but failed to find the killer punch and it was only in the last 15 minutes that they pierced the visitors’ defence, scoring two tries, both from hooker Joe Harper. Bellamy converted both to add a gloss to the scoreline.
