WIVELISCOMBE slipped out of the Junior Cup with a 26pts-56 defeat at home to Brockworth at the weekend.

But honours were more or less even at half-time with the score at 12pts-14 to the visitors in the Junior Cup match at the Rec.

The game was in doubt right up to the two o clock kick off time but both teams agreed the pitch was fit for play.

Wivey took an early lead when Jake Sharland found a gap on the narrow side of a ruck to score in the corner.

Brockworth hit back to score two tries through Matt Keenan and Liam Dunn. Matt Masters converted both to give the visitors a 14pts-5 lead.

Good pressure from Wivey pinning Brockworth near their try line resulted in a second try for the home team with Pete Burrows barging over. George Rowe converted to reduce the lead to 14pts-12 at half time to Brockworth.

Playing down the slope in the second half Brockworth looked a different team with both backs and forwards making penetrating runs and Wivey struggled to contain the well drilled visitors.

Brockworth scored five unanswered tries, John Newton, Luke Holden, Ed Tanner, Aaron Morris and Ross Brindley being the try scorers. Matt Masters converted all five tries to put the visitors in control 49pts-12 up.

Wivey, to their credit came back at their opponents even though the game was lost. They played some good rugby during a 20-minute period and were rewarded with two tries through prop Matt Ellis and George Rowe who also converted both to give a 49pts-26 score line.

Brockworth finished strongly and scored the final try of the game through Kyle Laverick with Masters finishing off a fine kicking display with his eighth conversion.
