Babas target one more win for safety

MINEHEAD Barbarians skipper Jason Hurley believes one more win should put his side safe from relegation in Western Counties (W).

An inconsistent season has seen the Babas slip to fourth from bottom but they are four points clear of the drop zone, with two sides going down.

Hurley said: "We're not safe yet but one more win from our last four games should be enough as we're four points clear and have a better points difference than the sides below.

"But getting that win won't be easy as we have a very tough run-in and have to play the three top sides."

Jason's father Mark coached the side until Christmas when he returned to his native New Zealand and, since then, Chris Thorne and Andy Stevens have taken over the duties.

Hurley said they have done a good job, even though results have not always gone their way.

He said: "Chris and Andy have come in and done a good job but results have been a bit disappointing.

"We had a poor start to the season and have not really got going since then.

"At Christmas, we had high hopes of kicking on and moving up the table but it hasn't really happened for us because of injuries and other things."

This Saturday, the Babas are home to Wadebridge Camels who are third in the table. The 2nd XV are without a league game but the Stags travel to face local rivals Wiveliscombe 2nds in Somerset Three (S).
