Tribute Cornwall and Devon: Wellington 10, Falmouth 3.
WELLINGTON finally escaped the shadow of relegation as they claimed the Cornishmen's scalp in a hard fought game in the rain and wind.
The victory put them four points ahead of their nearest rivals, Honiton, and in fact took them ahead of the team above them, Crediton. To provide an even greater safety margin, it was confirmed in the evening that the former had been deducted two points for playing an unregistered players, ironically when the they came to the Athletic Ground on January 19.

The visitors stated their intent straight from the kick off as they drove forward through their pack and were desperately held at bay by the manful Wellington defence.
With the elements against them they chose not to kick any of the numerous penalties they were awarded during this phase, which was to prove to be their undoing in the end.
Eventually the pressure was relieved as the home side got to the relative safety of midfield and began to attack. The Red and Blacks won a line-out in the corner after half an hour and went for a familiar ploy of lock Adam Morgan catching and dropping the ball into the tramline for the effervescent Jenkinson to catch and go over. Jared Baker used the wind to perfection to convert the score.
The home side were able to land another penalty through Baker on the stroke of half time to put the visitors even more under the cosh in view of the worsening conditions.
With ten minutes gone of the second half centre Alex Leach was stretchered off following a heavy tackle in which he injured his shoulder and neck and suffered what looked like concussion. He was replaced by club captain, Matt Parsons who made a return to action in the seconds the previous week and it was good to see him back after such a long lay off.
By this time the visitors had reduced the gap with their only penalty goal attempt of the match which was put over by full-back Jamie Instance.
Falmouth continued to go forward through their forwards but they were unable to muscle their way over and the Chiefs held out for victory.
