Vale golfers scramble to success

JACKIE Woodman teamed up with Martin Keitch, Chris Rossiter and Alan Parker to score 58.6 and win the Bob Peilow Texas scramble at Taunton Vale Golf Club.

Julie and Brian Prakes, Chris Sammons and Tim Warren were second with 59.2, with Karen Sammons, Rob Loder, Pete Holley and Steve Lukins third on 61.

Afterwards the 71 entrants sat down to a meal and the presentations were made by Carol Peilow, widow of the former Vale captain.

Mike Bright was the winner of Division One of the April Medal with a 67, three ahead of James Popham, with Nigel Contreras third on 71.

Jordan Mein headed Division Two with 69 while Mike Hooper edged into second place on a countback from Ian Hockey after both scored 71.

Rodney Holley won Division Three with 67, with Steve Lukins (70) second and Ian Smith (71) third.

Mike Bright continued his run of fine form to win Division One of the Rabbit Cup, but only after a countback from Pete Lang after both scored 67. A.J. Parker was third with 69.

Adam Cridlin came out on top in Division Two with 67 while Nigel Gridley was second on a countback from Ian Case after both returned 69s.

The overall winner with a 65 was John Bawler, who also headed Division Three from Terry Hellier and Ian Smith.

The previous weekend's stableford saw the top three in both the first and third divisions all return 37 points, so countbacks came into play.

Division One was won by Syd Mather, with Richard Tutill second and Kevin Lewis third, all with 37.

Arthur Edwards headed Division Two with 40, Will Scott was second with 38 and Glen Cornish came third with 37.

Division Three was won by Julian Hawkins, with Terry Hellier second and Richard Gilham third, all with 37.

April Running Stableford: Division One - 1 Daniel Keitch (41); 2 Mike Bright (39); 3 Mike Bright (38). Division Two - 1 Bob Bargery (34); 2 Les Oaten (30); 3 John Matravers (30).
