SOMERSET'S Alfonso Thomas played his part in helping Perth Scorchers to beat Sydney Sixers yesterday to book their place in the Big Bash final tomorrow (Friday).

After being put into bat at the WACA, the Scorchers were indebted to Craig Simmons who hit 112 to help his side to 193-5.

Between the innings the rain fell heavily and delayed the start of the Sixers innings.

Had the rain continued until 10.37pm the game would have been abandoned and the Sixers awarded the victory.

However it abated in time for the game to resume with two minutes to spare, with the Sydney side chasing 54 for victory off five overs.

Thomas opened the bowling and restricted the batsmen to seven runs to give the Scorchers a good start.

In a tense finish the Sixers needed six off the final ball for victory but failed to score to finish on 48-6.

Scorchers now face Hobart Hurricanes in the final at the WACA.
