CRICKET: T20 toil for Somerset seconds
SOMERSET 2nds lost both their T20 games against Warwickshire at Taunton Vale on Friday.
In the first game, after opting to bat first, Somerset scored 141-3 from their 20 overs, a total that was based upon an impressive 67 from Academy youngster Tom Abell, who shared a second wicket partnership with Lewis Gregory (48).
Warwickshire in reply reached 142-6, the returning Steve Kirby ending with 3-20 from his four overs.
In the second match, after being put in by the visitors 18-year-old Abell was again very much to the fore with 48, sharing in an opening stand of 54 with Chris Jones (22) and a second wicket partnership of 44 with Gregory (20).
Craig Meschede made 28 and added 42 for the fourth wicket with Stuart Thompson, an Irish youngster who hit 21 as Somerset reached 168-6.
In reply Warwickshire made 170-6.
Earlier in the week the Seconds travelled to Ombersley to play two T20 games against Worcestershire.
In the opening encounter the hosts chose to bat first and posted 145-6 from their overs, both Meschede and Jack Leach taking two wickets apiece.
Somerset in reply made 142-8, Meschede top scoring with 38, Alex Barrow making 24, Abell 19 and Gemaal Hussain 16.
The second match was an even closer affair.
after batting first Worcester made 139-9, with Hussain, Kirby and Max Waller each claiming two wickets.
Somerset responded with 136-8 thanks to an impressive unbeaten 62 from Chris Jones which came from 56 balls and included eight fours and a six. Abell made 28.
