SOMERSET blasted their way to finals day in the Friends Life T20 with a 27-run victory over Essex at the County Ground this afternoon (July 24).

The Cidermen recovered from the loss of Craig Kieswetter first ball to post 175-5, James Hildreth striking 58 off 36 balls.

Then the bowlers struck early as the Essex chase never gained momentum.

At 53-5 in the tenth over, when Alastair Cook was out for 28, the game was effectively over.

And some late hitting from Ryan ten Doeschate, who struck 47 in 24 balls, did little more than keep the crowd entertained.
