PRIORSWOOD ABC made a great start to 2013 when Jordan Barrow earned a unanimous decision at the Pilgrims boxing tournament in Plymouth on Saturday.

Barrow, taking part in his first bout since switching to Priorswood, was matched with home boxer Lee McCelland.

In round one Barrow got straight to work, using his southpaw jab to keep McCelland at bay and giving him no chance to get in range.

He used his superior height and reach well, moving well and keeping his opponent punching at thin air.

In round two McCelland came out strongly, throwing lots of punches in a bid to make up the points deficit.

But again Barrow's ringcraft and footwork enable him to pick McCelland off at ease.

The pace slowed in round three which Barrow just did enough to take and it came as no surprise when the referee declared him the winner.

Any boys or girls, aged 11 and above, who are looking to take up boxing are welcome to join the Priorswood club. They train at Rowbarton Boys Club (opposite Selworthy School) on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm-9pm.
