WELLINGTON were desperately unlucky to return down the M5 empty handed after a 1-0 defeat away to Toolstation newcomers Cribbs Friends Life on Tuesday night.

The Bristol side, who have done well in their debut season, went ahead in the first half but the visitors dominated proceedings after the break and deserved at least a point for their efforts.

After a tentative opening, the game burst into life midway through the first half with both sides seeing goalbound shots cleared by defenders.

The breakthrough came on the half-hour when a Cribbs corner was swung over from the right and defender Tim O'Loughlin rose unchallenged to head home.

That lapse in concentration cost Wellington dear as it proved to be the only goal of the game despite their second-half superiority.

Redrup, whose pace caused Cribbs all sorts of problems, the impressive Kyle Bassett and midfielder Andy Butler all went close to equalising.

And, when the visitors did scramble the ball into the net in injury-time, the referee's assistant had his flag raised for offside.

Wellington also had three appeals for penalties turned down.

Wellington: Jake Viney, Ed Weeks, Martin White, Scott Holland, Jack Adams, Kyle Bassett, Andy Butler, Joe Holmes, Joe Chamberlain, Corey Lewis, Ross McNab. Substitutes: Luke Redrup, Tom Ellis and Max Westlake (all used). Attendance: 30.
