TAUNTON Town regroup and head for the North Somerset coast this Saturday to take on Clevedon Town in the Evo-Stik League.

Taunton suffered a bad 5-1 home defeat last weekend against Didcot, while their scheduled fixture at local rivals Bridgwater Town on Tuesday evening was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch so the trip to the Hand Stadium represents the Peacocks' first chance to get the Didcot reversal out of their system.

Taunton manager Leigh Robinson said: “Naturally we were disappointed to lose heavily at home to Didcot but the reality is that they have a really experienced team who will most likely make the play offs.

“They beat Tiverton 4-1 last week and came to us really confident. We lost Rob Norrish early on with an injury, as well as Ben Mammola being sent off, who are two key players to lose in a game like that.

“We also had Carl and Rodney playing their first games in a while and admittedly they looked a little rusty.

“At 2-0 down and down to ten men the odds are you are going to get beaten anyway so you either defend and accept 2-0 or you go in search of goals which is what we did and got counter attacked which gave the result a harsh look about it.”

Goals from Jamie Short, Simon Ingram and Rodney Marsh gave Taunton a 3-2 victory in the home match with Clevedon last November but since then the Seasiders have edged up the table to sit in the top ten.

Andy Robertson returns to the squad for Saturday after being out with a groin injury, however Rob Norrish and Khaled Badavi are both struggling with the same condition.

The vital game with Winchester City, who were 3-2 winners over Town on the opening day of the season, takes place at Wordsworth Drive next Wednesday (Feb 20), kick-off 7.45pm. Taunton Under 18s let slip a 4-2 interval lead to lose 5-4 at Bishop Sutton last Thursday in the Somerset Floodlight Youth League. Scorers for the Peacocks were Sam Winslade (2), Sam Towler and Sam Steel. The scheduled match with Gillingham Town at Wordsworth Drive last night (Wednesday) was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, meaning the youth team's next fixture is on Tuesday evening when they travel to Tiverton Town, kick-off 7.30pm.
