FOOTBALL: Peacocks depleted for tomorrow's visit of Wimborne
5:00pm Friday 13th September 2013 in Sport
TAUNTON Town are back in action again at Wordsworth Drive tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain Wimborne Town in a re-arranged Calor League fixture, kick-off 3pm.
The Peacocks were faced with the prospect of a blank weekend after their recent FA Cup exit so the opportunity was taken to bring forward the game with the Dorset club from midweek in November.
However manager Leigh Robinson’s cupboard is rather bare, with five players missing for various reasons.
Shane Kingston, Nat Pepperell and Rodney Marsh are all suspended following their dismissals against Bridgwater in the FA Cup while Jamie Price is attending a wedding and Simon Ingram is injured.
Robinson said: “Missing five players for one game obviously isn’t ideal but it gives a chance to the lads who have been in and out so far.
“I’d expect them to be chomping at the bit so we’ll still be going into the game in a positive frame of mind.”
Town are also on their travels on Tuesday evening when they visit Cirencester Town in the Calor League, kick-off 7.45pm.
Taunton Under 18s made an early exit from the FA Youth Cup when they lost 3- 1 to Merthyr Town at Wordsworth Drive on Monday evening.
The Welsh side took an early lead through a penalty after eight minutes and went further ahead when they scored direct from a corner on 51 minutes.
Zac Ryder pulled a goal back on 75 minutes to give the Peacocks hope but the visitors sealed their passage with a third eight minutes from time.
The Under-18s play their first home Somerset Floodlight Youth League match of the campaign on Monday evening when they host Gillingham Town, kick-off 7.45pm.
