HORSE RIDING: Impressive showing by King's Hall riders at Bicton Arena
6:00pm Saturday 26th October 2013 in Sport
TWO teams of intrepid riders from King’s Hall School contested Classes 1 and 2 at the new One Day Event at Bicton Arena. All riders rode solid dressage tests followed by many clear rounds over show jumps.
The cross-country course at Bicton is testing and the riders were keen to tackle the tough fences in this glorious setting.
In Class 1 Sophie Minchin and Foxy were first to go cross-country. Foxy enjoyed looking at the fences first but Sophie carried on determinedly and completed the course.
Amelia Mowat, Tilly Williams and Ellie Clist all followed Sophie and rode clear, confident rounds with Ellie’s pony Treacle keen to overtake those ahead of him.
This fabulous team effort resulted in second place out of the 14 teams.
In their sections Ellie Clist came seventh, Amelia Mowat came seventh and Tilly Williams came eighth.
Eliza Chapple, Lilly Chambers and Karis Chambers rode as a team in Class 2.
With just three riders in the team every score counted and this always gives additional pressure.
Lilly rode a super dressage test that achieved a score of 27.1.
The team followed the lovely dressage tests with calm show jumping, only picking up four faults from one knock down.
The girls were keen to get underway with cross-country and thoroughly enjoyed their rounds over the challenging fences.
A couple of stops out on the course unfortunately resulted in the team just failing to secure rosettes but as a new group they had every reason to be very proud of the result.
Seventh out of 16 teams is a really positive start to the year.
Lilly Chambers finished the day third overall in her section.
