FOOTBALL: Peacocks target six of the best

TAUNTON Town are on the verge of equalling their best run of results for over ten years when they entertain Calor League newcomers Stratford Town at Wordsworth Drive on Saturday (3pm).

The Peacocks have won their last five matches, including four in the league, which has seen them climb to eighth place in the table.

Another victory at the weekend will equal their six consecutive wins achieved in 2002 when they were still members of the Western League.

Stratford, though, will provide difficult opposition, having scored 40 goals already this season including some thumping away wins at Thatcham and Fleet. They also boast the division’s third highest goalscorer.

Taunton manager Leigh Robinson said: “Stratford are an unpredictable side so it’s hard to know what to expect on Saturday.

“They score lots of goals and concede lots too so it’s likely to be an open game which will be good if we attract a decent crowd after our recent winning run.”

Rodney Marsh is still not ready to return following ligament damage but Jamie Short and team captain Jamie Price should both be fit for selection and Simon Ingram is also likely to be available after missing last weekend’s trip to Cinderford due to the birth of his son.

The game with Stratford signals Taunton Town’s first ever Ladies Day. It is being staged in association with Taunton Town Ladies FC and all women and girls will be admitted for free.

Ladies can also enjoy a free glass of Bucks Fizz and there will be stalls of a feminine nature featuring hand-made jewellery and a beautician, as well as a raffle.
