WELLINGTON A continued their successful run, beating Watchet B 69-41 in South West 1 of the Somerset Bowls League.

Laurie Greaves, Bob Clarke, Courtney Bowden and skip Bill Heard started slowly but after nine ends had caught up and were level on eight shots apiece.

The Wellington side then picked up a six on the 13th and the Watchet side’s confidence fell as they went down 26-14.

Martin Speakman, Ernie Windsor, Mike Connor and skip Ken Brown were also struggling in the first few ends and were 10-5 down after 12 before things began to turn around.

Wellington picked up a four on the next and Watchet buckled, only picked up one more shot in the whole match to go down 23-11.

Nick Channon, Bob Cowling, Paul Kelly and skip Mike Groves started out well but after the 18th end, with three more to play, the scores were level at 16-16.

The Wellington side then pulled up their collective socks and took four shots in the last three to take it at the wire 20-16.

Victory on all three rinks gave Wellington a full 12 points to take home.

Wellington B team however ran into serious trouble in their match against Bridgwater C in South West 2.

J. Merrell, Dennis Courtney, Alan Bell and skip Bob Codd put up a good fight against a very strong side led by J Mockridge before going down 30-20.

Mike Twyford’s team also tried everything they could to keep up with their opponents, skipped by N Jones, but they lost 28-11.

Wellington skip and captain Tony Jennings had a good side in Richard Sanders, Mike Lockyer and John Lister. However but they were beaten 26-14 by a very powerful squad led by Bridgwater skip L Elswood.
