A MINUTE’S silence was held in memory of club stalwart Geoff Turner – who died last weekend – before Somerset Stragglers’ game against Wellington’s Midweek XI.

The match itself saw Stragglers win by three wickets after dismissing Wellington for just 99.

But the ball was the real winner as 17 wickets fell for just 199 runs in 55.4 overs of the 90 allocated.

Stragglers asked Wellington to bat and saw Richard Henwood (11) hit the first ball of the game for four.

But only two more double figure scores were forthcoming as Wellington struggled with the bat on a pitch that had been exposed to heavy rain overnight and was slow and low.

Damon with 3-12 in five overs and J Larkman bowled well with the new ball for Stragglers and at 35-6 in 12 overs Wellington were in real trouble.

But a bright and well-made stand of 48 for the seventh wicket between Arron Campbell (34) and Ben Evett (25) more than doubled Wellington's score.

Evett pulled the ball well behind square and Campbell played well on the leg side too, but both were out within five runs of each other and Wellington mustered just 11 more runs before being dismissed in 29 overs.

Max Capaldi and Macaulay Campbell were in good form with the new ball for Wellington and removed Stragglers openers Coles and Caswell for 23 combined.

Ben Evett's potent leg spin took 2-22 in six overs and Rob Moysey was in control when delivering five overs of the same. But Carson (22) and McKee (25) kept Stragglers in the game.

With the score 87-7 the game could still have gone either way but Foden hit the ball to the fine leg boundary to clinch the match.
