A TOTAL of 24 teams took part in the Ladies Captain’s Charity Mixed Bowmaker at Taunton and Pickeridge on Saturday.

The event was held in aid of Jill Paul’s chosen charity, Cancer Research UK, which benefitted to the sum of £350 including £200 from the raffle. After the competition, more than 50 people enjoyed an evening meal followed by barn dancing to local band, Hobson’s Choice.

At the end of the Charity Mixed Bowmaker competition three teams returned to the clubhouse with 86, but after countback it was Georgia Calvert, Pete Richards and Richard Evered who took the top spot, just ahead of Theresa Dowsett, Tony Dowsett and Judy McKerracher, with third place going to Caroline Cooper, Jeff Dyke and Dai Morris.

Jane Ledsham, Trevor French and Norman Llewellyn claimed fourth place on 82 after countback edged them ahead of Jill Paul (ladies’ captain), Maurice Baigent (club president) and Mike Nicholls (club chairman).

The Ladies’ Nearest the Pin on the sixth hole was won by Anne George while it was Dai Morris who won the Men’s Nearest the Pin on the eighth hole. Twos were recorded by Ray Codd, Bill Ewens, Trevor French, Laura Herbert, Patsy Morgan, John Wall and Martin Short.

Last Tuesday the Ladies Section held their autumn meeting when the Silver Division of the medal was won by Fiona Lovell with a net 68, two ahead of Roisin Burree with 70 Chrys Maltby was the winner in the Bronze Division with 68, but only following countback which put her ahead of Patsy Morgan who had the same score. Jeanne Leader was third with 72 and Anna Rees fourth with 73.

The Silver Division in the Stableford was won by Mary Guy on countback from Louise Worth after both returned with 36 points.

The Bronze Division was won by Katy Davies with 35 points, Marlene Ewens with 34 took second spot but only after countback over the back nine edged her in front of Susan Gawne-Cain.

The Club Cup for the Silver Division for the best gross score was won by Louise Worth with a gross 77, while the Eileen Green Trophy for the best in the Bronze Division went to best Patsy Morgan with 92.

Nearest the Pin in the Bronze Division was won by Sheila Beresford and the Nearest the Pin in two shots on the Par 4 14th hole went to Katy Davies.

Twos were recorded on the day by Ali McGown, Mary Perrett and Anna Rees.
