TAUNTON Town are in Southern League action at the Viridor Stadium tomorrow when they host Merthyr Town, kick-off 3pm.

The Peacocks’ midweek victory over Mangotsfield on Tuesday maintained their position in second place.

But Merthyr are only one point behind with two games in hand. So although it is relatively early days, the game provides an important yardstick of where Town are in terms of their ambitions for the season.

The Welsh club, who lost in last season’s play-off final, are also averaging over three goals per game so a testing encounter is definitely on the cards.

Steve Kingdon and Rodney Marsh will miss the game due to injury but Shane Kingston is back from holiday and the Peacocks hope to have one or two new signings available.

Town are then on cup duty next Tuesday, making the short trip to Bridgwater Town in the first round of the Red Insure Cup, kick-off 7.45pm.

The sides have met already this season, the Peacocks winning the league game 2-1 at Fairfax Park last month.
