WELLINGTON grabbed a superb 3-1 win at second-placed Exeter University 3rds with their stand-out performance of the season.

Despite again missing players, the young Wellington side dominated the game in tough conditions.

The first half ended 0-0 with the Tangerines creating the only chances with Josh Baker, Jamie Dingle and Conor Bryant all going close.

The second half carried on much as the first. With no recognised centre back Sam Bryant put in a performance much resembling his father Kev, a former Wellington centre half, which led to him being named man of the match.

He was well-supported by fellow defenders Conor Sellick and Josh Pearson.

Sam’s brother Conor, who is returning to fitness after injury, caused all sorts of problems in partnership with Luke Perry up front. They were aided by Jamie Dingle who is impressed in his new free role.

The trio all linked with wing-back James Rowley to get the first goal of the game after 55 mins with a lay off from Bryant finding Dingle whose chipped pass was crossed by Rowley for Perry to convert from inside the six yard box.

Welly increased the lead after Conor Bryant ran past his man in the box and was up-ended, leaving brother Sam to take the spot kick.

A good save was made by the Uni keeper but Sam followed up to double the advantage.

The home side tried to push Welly back but the defensive trio held firm with Bryant making timely interceptions Pearson also making a goal-saving tackle.

Manager Warren also pulled off a save from a header in a five minute spell of pressure which eventually saw the home side convert a cross to reduce the deficit.

But Welly are growing as a team and the new youngsters are finding their feet, especially Josh Baker who had another fantastic performance on the right wing.

The third came as midfielder Tobi Jenkins made another of many lung bursting runs into the box to get onto another Perry/Bryant link-up to deftly chip the keeper with a cool finish.

Welly now move up to seventh and will take confidence from this win.
