KING'S College girls’ football squad just completed a ground-breaking, very successful inaugural tour to Hong Kong.

The girls flew home after a seven- day tour, during which they played a total of 11 matches and competed in a very competitive invitational tournament involving local teams, including their hosts KCC Football and teams from the Hong Kong FA.

The girls topped the table after the pool stage, having scored nine goals. They lost only one game and conceded one goal. They progressed to the semi-final where they again faced the Hong Kong FA and, although scoring first, were caught twice on the counter-attack and bowed out graciously.

The girls played skilful and attractive football that drew praise from coaches and spectators alike.

The tour party also connected with members of the Hong Kong-based former King’s pupil (OA) community.

Reflecting on the tour, head of football Chris Heayns said: “We have had an amazing time, both on and off the pitch.

“Our hosts have been generous and welcoming and we have enjoyed wonderful cultural and life-enriching experiences.

“Above all, we have made some life-long friendships. There is no doubt this is only the beginning of King’s relationship with Hong Kong Girls’ Football.”

Such was the unique nature of this tour that the girls’ progress throughout was covered by TV station TVB Sports.
