BISHOPS Lydeard Ladies defied the odds to record a 3-1 victory over higher league opponents Brislington in the semi-finals of the SFA Senior Cup on Sunday.

Brislington, who sit second in the premier division of the South West Women’s League, travelled to Darby Way with hopes of reaching their second consecutive final.

However Lydeard, playing down the slope, drew first blood after just two minutes when a well-weighted pass from midfield found pacey winger Sophie Buck who skipped past her marker and shot across the keeper and into the top corner.

Brislington responded with good possession but failed to capitalise until the 43rd minute when Abbie Kirby headed home the equaliser.

The second half started in a similar way to the first and within three minutes Lydeard had notched up a second when Holly Miller delivered a perfect cross which was neatly passed into the net by player-of-the match Dawna Dennett.

For the next 35 minutes it was backs to the wall as Lydeard defended wave after wave of attacks.

But Lydeard sealed the match in the 86th minute with a quick counter- attack which Dennett latched onto another perfect cross from Miller.

In the final Lydeard will face Larkhall who play in Division 1 of the Premier League (SW).
