HUSBAND and wife team Chris and Janice Thorne were the pair in form when they played Ernie Windsor and Julie Stanton in the mixed pairs quarter final at Wellington indoor bowls club.

The scoring of this game was very peculiar because the Thornes hardly gave anything away in the first half of the game and were leading 24-1 after nine ends.

From the tenth however, Windsor and Stanton got into their stride and began a strong comeback.

Sadly for them they ran out of time and the Thornes won the match comfortably 25-9.

They will go through into the semi-finals to play Nick Channon and Margaret Brotheridge.

Mike Connor and Ann Cowling set off at a fast pace at the beginning of their quarter-final against Dennis Fullstone and Yvonne Ede and were leading 11-0 after just five ends.

Fullstone and Ede then began to show their bowling skills and by the tenth were just five shots down on 12-7.

Connor and Cowling were not going to let them catch up however and gave away no more shots the whole match to end it 20-7.

Roland Bath and Monica Spalding never really got in contention against Richard Man-ning and Helen Lan-caster, losing 25-5.
