LOCOMOTIVES eased into the final of the Knock Out Cup with a 5-2 victory over North Petherton on a neutral pitch at Staplegrove.

It was Pethy who had the best of the early possession and looked the more likely to open the scoring but then Locos got themselves going after ten minutes or so and the game looked more equal.

That was until Senna Clapp was on hand to give North Petherton the lead. Ten minutes later they doubled their lead with a Scott Harman goal.

Had Pethy held on to their lead until half time the game may well have gone a different way, but Locos hit back before the break with two goals from Simon Buckley.

In the second half the game became more feisty with so much at stake and it was something of a surprise that more cards weren’t shown.

Ryan Vickery put Locomotives 3-2 in front with one of his trademark free kicks which the keeper couldn’t reach. Pethy then lost their keeper with a very badly sliced knee. That gave Locos the upper hand and they went on to score twice more through Jay Cross and Kieran Wyatt.

West Somerset Rose Bowl martin Hawkins grabbed a brace as ten-man Porlock beat Tone Youth 2-1 in this competition for teams that have been eliminated from the League Knock Out Cup in the first two rounds.

The Rose Bowl has been resurrected after a two year absence.

The match was played on a heavy pitch which made for a scrappy affair but both teams played a committed game.

Porlock took advantage of Tone giving the ball away cheaply when Hawkins grabbed the opening goal.

Tone soon forced themselves back into the game when a Stuart Glover cross was nodded in by Shaun Anthony, the ex-Taunton Town player, who has come back to football so his young son can watch his dad play after missing the peak of his career. A straight red just before the break for a late challenge reduced Porlock to ten men but it seemed to work in their favour as they upped their work-rate in the second period.

However, it took a fortunate deflection from a direct free kick by Hawkins to give Porlock a deserved victory.

Gardner Cup this cup, which is for teams that are knocked out in the first two rounds of the Seward Cup – has also not been played since the 2011-12 season.

With Staplegrove Colts riding high in Division Four and Fivehead nearer the bottom of Division Five the odds would have been on a Grove convincing win. However Fivehead weren’t having any of that. They went 1-0 up around the 20 minute mark though Dan Rogers and it stayed like that for the rest of the half.

Straight from the re-start the teams were level though an Ian Bishop strike. With 20 minutes to go Fivehead went 2-1 up after a great though ball from Kevin Muckersie picked out Dan Rogers who lofted the ball over the keeper.

However five minutes later it was 2-2 when Kurtis Selway scored for Grove and with the last kick of the game they found the winner from young Jason Quick. Division One Bishops Lydeard reserves beat Sampford Blues 4-1 but it wasn’t enough to move them off the bottom of the table. Kirk Poulson scored twice and Charlie Cooke and Dan Abercrombie once each for Lydeard while Luke Lawrence replied for Blues.

Division Two Alcombe Rovers stay top after a convincing 3-0 victory over Morganians thanks to goals from Darren Sherring, Chris Newbold and Andrew Land. Milverton Rangers had the better of a first half against Wembdon which was disrupted by a few injuries.

Despite hitting the bar and having a couple of other chances, Milverton were unable to convert, and the score at half time was 0-0.

Early in the second half a long set piece fell kindly to Andrew Skidmore, who was able to lash home from close range to give Wembon a 1-0 lead. The rest of the game was fairly even, and Wembdon were able to see it out to take all three points and move closer up the table to their opponents. There were five goals in the West Somerset derby between Watchet and Minehead with the home team coming out on top 3-2. Connor Jeromson scored two for Watchet and Billy Jones the third with Billy Taylor and Connery Attwell replying for Minehead.

Division Three Sydenham Rangers, the only side in the entire league who remain undefeated beat Norton Fitzwarren 6-1. Both Carl Jones and George Wilkinson scored a pair for Rangers, Joseph Fitzsimmons while Jake Adey added one each. Scott Mervin got the Norton consolation goal. Woolavington won 4-1 against Exmoor Rangers whose only goal came from Jimmy Baker.

Division Four Leaders Creech Cougars were held to a 3-3 draw by Bridgwater Grasshoppers.

On target for Creech were James Brush, Ali Poole and Adam Barter. Porlock were beaten 4-1 by Middlezoy Athletic, their only goal coming from Michael Auton.

Division Five AFTER leaders Gallery Reserves saw their game postponed, second- placed Bishops Lydeard had the chance to get three points and go level at the top on points.

But opponents Bridgwater Sports Colts had different ideas and they won 4-2 with Harry Taylor scoring a hat-trick. Ross Udall and Eden Cooper replied for Lydeard.

Bottom side Norton Fitzwarren reserves picked up their second victory of the season with a 2-1 away win at Morganians reserves with a goal from James Wyatt and a converted penalty from Lewis Coward. North Curry beat Bridgwater Wolves 5-2 with Josh Dodimead, Ben Carolan, Rob Watts and Joe Gratton all scoring one each. Chris McKee scored the ‘perfect’ hat-trick, one with his left, one with his right and a header for Hamilton Athletic Foxes who beat Nether Stowey 4-1. Darren Bonsall, with a lovely low drive into the bottom corner, got the fourth and this all came after Hamilton had gifted Nether Stowey an own goal.
