JESSICA Gundry of Wellington Swords is the 2015 British Junior Women’s Epee champion.
She won the title after a competition involving the top 52 Under-20 epeeists in the country. Gundry had a slow start in the poules so started the ‘direct eliminations’ in 11th place.
But she easily won her way to the final where she narrowly beat Plymouth’s Kerenza Bryson 15-14.
After a year of travelling down to Truro twice a week for her training with coach Keni Yamamoto, Jess is now back training with him in Wellington. Other Wellington Swords fencers in action at the championships were Charlie Follet, 36th in the women’s epee championship, and Fergus McKendry, 16th in the boys cadet epee.
