WATCHET will be hoping for the support of a large home crowd when they entertain the champions for the past three seasons – Nailsea United – in the quarter finals of the Somerset County Senior Cup today (2.30pm).

The visitors will be seeking revenge for losing out to the Red & Blacks in the final of the same competition in 2011.

Last Saturday Watchet played out a 0-0 draw at Frome Collegians in the league to remain sixth in the Somerset county league’s premier division table.

That was an improvement on their showing when the two sides met at the Memorial Ground earlier in the season and the visitors claimed a 5-1 victory.

n Minehead, who were without a game last weekend, reconvene their fight against relegation when they entertain Wrington Redhill (3pm).

The Blues find themselves just one position above the relegation places and their situation was made more perilous when Ilminster, the side below them, sprang a surprise 2-1 victory at home to Berrow.

n Minehead Under-11s travelled to Wellington on Saturday.

In what turned out to be a closely fought game, Minehead eventually came away with all the points after snatching a late winner.

Minehead had started well and soon tested the Wellington keeper with a strike from Charlie Purkis. They took the lead when a superb ball from Charlie Disney caught out the Wellington defence to set up Frankie Smith who nicely chipped a fast approaching keeper.

Wellington came back fighting forcing Charlie Gunter in the Minehead goal to make a number of saves while Lewis Leach, Disney and Ajay Shopland were having to work well together to clear their lines.

A Wellington free kick went wide and a further strike from the edge of the box also was off target but following another attack Minehead lost possession just outside the box and a looping shot found the net to equalise.

Minehead were back on the attack with Oliver Prescott making some good runs up the wing, creating some good chances and linking up well with Ajay Shopland and Oliver Ferris who were both having excellent games and seeing plenty of the ball.

Minehead continued to press forcing a number of corners but Wellington were holding strong.

Then with only minutes to go Minehead were awarded a free kick between the half way line and the edge of the penalty box.

A quick-thinking Disney chipped the ball over the defence into the area where Isaac Sweetland was first to the ball catching it on the bounce and smashing it past the advancing keeper to secure a well deserved 1 - 2 win.
