VIVARY Golf Club reached the end of an era when Dave Carter, one of its major players and dedicated servants, died last week.

A club spokesman said: “Carter had been a stalwart of the club for many years, sitting on committees and performing many vital tasks with a commitment and an authority much respected by members.

“His name is etched on countless boards and trophies at the club but it will be his peerless integrity and good companionship for which he will be remembered.”

The Seniors’ Candle-mas Stableford at Vivary Golf Club was comfortably won by Chris Stone who compiled a careful 42 points.

Four points behind was Dave Beale followed by Bob Stock in third place with 37.

The Valentine’s Stableford was more keenly contested and Pete Jeffery kept Kelvin Davies at bay by just one point with a good 41. Third was Tudor Humphries on 38.

The Medal round for February saw Charles Hall and Dave Beale both come home with a 63 but Hall took the honours with a better back nine.

Kelvin Davies and Pete Jeffery shared 65 but Davies took third on count-back.

The order was reversed in the St David’s Stableford when Beale won with 41 points and Hall took second with 38 and a better back nine than Davies also on 38.
