A COMPOSED, but at times brutal innings of 106 not out by Jed Glanvill set up a comfortable victory for Bagborough 2nds over Taunton A in division two of the West Somerset league.

On a pitch which was soft and lifeless after midweek rain, Bagborough were asked to bat first.

Accurate opening bowling by Langford and Devassy initially kept Bagborough quiet as they crept to 18-1 off the first nine overs.

Soon after Glanvill offered a difficult caught and bowled chance but survived and then never looked back, making Taunton pay heavily.

He lost partners at regular intervals but carried the attack to the opposition and completed his century in the final over.

Bagborough’s opening bowlers were lacked the pace of their Taunton counterparts but as the pitch was soft, the bounce was very low and accurate and tidy bowling by Coulson and Raffill meant Taunton also started slowly.

After the opening pair finished their spell, 14-year-old Blake Jones bowled 12 overs of superb leg-spin with flight and plenty of turn to nullify any hopes of an increase in the tempo.

Chris Sweet also bowled his 12 with his usual steady accuracy and the the reply never got moving. After 30 overs, Taunton’s opener Rogers departed for a well-made 41, leaving them 87-3.

With ten overs remaining, Taunton needed 101 and despite a few blows by Gale and most impressively by 16-year-old Miles Wilson with a hard-hit 32 not out Taunton slipped to a 46 run defeat, losing nine wickets in the process.

For Bagborough, Jones (2-39) and Sweet (6-43) were the pick.
