SOMERSET will have to be faultless if they are to quality for the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals.

That’s the view of their director of cricket, Matt Maynard, who insists nothing less than a 100% record from their final group matches will be enough to reach the knock-out stages.

The matches come thick and fast for Somerset and the next week or so will decide the outcome of their Nat West T20 Blast season.

Currently, the Cidermen sit next to the bottom of the South Group and need to claim maximum points from each of the four games remaining to stand a chance of qualifying - something Maynard is only too well aware of.

He said: “We have to look to try and win all four of our remaining matches to make sure we qualify for the quarter-finals of the T20.”

Table-toppers Kent, who have taken 14 points from their games, are first up at Canterbury tonight (Friday) - and Maynard said: “Kent are flying high in the competition and we know only too well they are a dangerous side but we will have to be at our best for the last four matches.”

“We need to look at our power play again because when it works for us we have controlled games but when the power plays have gone against us we have lost the games.”

Following the game with Kent the next T20 opponents are Surrey at The Oval, which takes place a week later.

After the match at Canterbury the players travel straight up to London in preparation for the championship match against Middlesex at Merchant Taylors School, which gets underway on Saturday.

Elsewhere, batsman Tom Cooper is playing for the Second XI in their current three-day championship match against MCC Young Cricketers.

On Tuesday, he made 117, his maiden century for the club - an innings that may well see him coming back into contention for first team selection.
