Southern League Division One S&W

Taunton Town 2, Wimborne Town 1

TWO first half goals from Jordan Rogers gave Taunton Town victory over struggling Wimborne Town, a three point lead at the top of the Southern League Div One S and W on Tuesday and set up a top of the table clash at North Leigh this Saturday, writes Kerry Miller.

The Peacocks played some stunning high energy football in the first half and threatened to blow away the Dorset side who are averaging four goals a game conceded already this season.

Rogers had already had a snap shot saved by Jason Harvell within a minute when Josh Klein-Davies escaped down the right and squared for him to fire home from 12 yards, ten minutes later.

Captain Jamie Price, who had a superb game all over the park, then threw in a free-kick which Rogers nodded wide then Jamie Short, Josh Searle and Klein-Davies all went close as Taunton threatened to run riot.

Wimborne had the odd foray into home territory with burly striker James Stokoe and Carl Preston busy but just past the half hour mark Rogers made it 2-0 when Price and Short combined down the right again and the ball was put on a plate at the far post.

Wimborne showed more urgency after the break and Town went off the boil for long periods and it was no surprise when Preston was left all alone in the box to half the deficit with ten minutes left.

Price’s wicked close range volley would have wrapped the game up had it been inches lower but as it was the 264 strong crowd went home happy and with North Leigh on Saturday and then Odd Down in the FA Cup Town are in good shape.
