WHEELCHAIR tennis star Lucy Shuker is among the leading entries for this week’s Nottingham Indoor, the final ITF One Series tournament of the year, as the Ash Priors player prepares for her return to the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in London.

Shuker is one of seven world top 10 players in the women’s singles field in Nottingham and one of five who will then be among the elite field of eight women for the International Tennis Federation’s year-end singles championship at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on December 2-6.

For world number seven, Shuker, who trains at Tone Leisure in Taunton, it will be the first time since London 2012 that she has played competitively at the venue where she won her Paralympic women’s doubles bronze medal alongside fellow Brit Jordanne Whiley just over three years ago.

“I’m very excited to be going to the Masters after just missing out qualifying last year.

"It’s where I feel I belong among the very best players.

"I’ve got some great memories from London 2012, so it will be very nice to be back competing at the same venue. I feel I’m in good form at the moment.”

After reaching the semi-finals of the Doubles Masters two weeks ago in California, Shuker already has a string of singles wins over fellow top 10 opponents this year. She is hoping to hit form again this week in Nottingham, where she is one of four Brits on the Tennis Foundation’s Wheelchair Tennis Performance Programme who are preparing for the Masters.
