TAUNTON Town have the chance of swift revenge when they host Tiverton Town in a crucial Evo-Stik League game at the Viridor Stadium tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Last week’s 1-0 defeat at Ladysmead looked to have put a terminal spanner in Town’s works in their challenge for the South and West Division title, but Saturday’s dramatic victory at Shortwood coupled with Cinderford being held to a draw at North Leigh now means that Taunton can finish top and secure automatic promotion if they can win all four of their remaining fixtures.

This will be easier said than done given the standard of opposition Town have left to meet though, starting with tomorrow night’s return derby when the Devon side will undoubtedly hope to scupper Peacock hopes again.

Tiverton’s remote chance of snatching a play-off place finally disappeared on Saturday, along with those of Shortwood and North Leigh, meaning only Evesham United can now dislodge one of the current top five sides.

Town will be missing centre half Rob Farkins who is on holiday, whilst Jamie Short is a doubt due to illness.

There will be a collection during the evening to help meet the costs of the funeral for longstanding Town supporter and local referee Tom Gallagher who passed away recently as there is sadly no family able to organise or pay for it.
