BBC FA Cup summariser Steve Claridge showed the folly of trying to watch eight games at the same time while being expected to comment on all of them on Sunday, writes Kerry Miller.

He described the game at Taunton as ‘bitty, irritable and a physical encounter’ adding that when his Salisbury side come to the Viridor Stadium on November 19, they will expect ‘a very physical and difficult game’.

He based that assumption on the incident which saw Barrow striker Liam Hughes sent off for a retaliatory clash with Owen Irish, the only real unsavoury incident in what was a full-blooded but end-to-end cup tie, a million miles away from ‘bitty’.

Leigh Robinson showed he did actually watch the game, telling the BBC: “I would definitely have taken a draw and a replay before the game as there was a little bit of everything.

“I was pleased that we put on a performance and did ourselves justice in front of a big crowd and the cameras.”

Asked about the replay, Robinson smiled: “Logistically, getting up to Cumbria for a replay on a Tuesday is not going to be easy for a team at our level.

“I’m sure the chairman will be delighted to have that problem.”
