GoCrea8 Premiership

Taunton Vale 1sts 4, Truro 4

TAUNTON welcomed Truro for an important clash with both teams wanting three points to decrease their chances of relegation.

The hosts started well and went in 3-1 up at half-time after Karl Trunks fired home two short corners and James Linehan neatly deflected in.

Truro became very animated with some umpiring decisions and Taunton seemingly put themselves out of reach at 4-1 with another goal from James Linehan.

However, the momentum changed significantly and Taunton could not withstand the onslaught as they conceded three quick goals.

The result was a frustrating one for Taunton but they are no closer to relegation than before the weekend so with a couple more results they should secure their Premier League status for next season.

Uni of Exeter 3s 4, Taunton Vale 2s 2

VALE 2s started strongly and netted first through Torsten Junker, who skilfully wrong-footed the keeper to score.

Then Paul Hawkins evaded several tackles before lobbing the keeper to put Vale 2-0 up just before half-time.

However, the Uni students came back strongly in the second half and Vale’s dominance began to ebb.

They got back into the game with a goal from a short corner and scored three more goals to run out winners.

Central One Taunton Vale B 0, Team Bath Buccs C 5 VALE 3s were looking to build on last week’s excellent performance but struggled against Bath’s youthful legs.

They went into the break just a goal down and produced their best hockey in the first ten minutes of the second half.

They were unable to create any clearcut chances and Bath dominated the rest of the half, scoring four more unanswered goals, despite Mark Lecompte impressing in goal.

Rich Stock hit the post with the goal at his mercy as Vale succumbed.

Man of the match: Mark Lecompte.

England Hockey Under-18s National Cup Quarter-final

Teddington 3, Taunton Vale 3 (5-4 pens)

AFTER a long trip to London on Sunday, Vale started the game well but went behind to a penalty flick.

However, Vale came back strongly and Ben O’Neil equalised. Teddington found more and more space in the attacking half and, just before the break, Teddington re-took the lead.

After the break, Vale went 3-1 down before showing great character to respond through O’Neil and Dom Drew.

With neither side wanting to throw the game away, the match went into sudden death penalty flicks.

O’Neil, Sam Whitfield, Elliot Fathers, Finlay Quaile and Drew stepped up with five good flicks, but one flick was matched by an equally impressive save as Vale agonisingly lost out.
