DAY one of the Cheltenham festival was a typically dramatic affair, and Ladies Day is set to provide more of the same.

Filled with false confidence by the inspired selection of the 16/1 winner Tiger Roll in yesterday's penultimate race, here are today's County Gazette top tips...

1.30 Neptune Novices Hurdle

Neon Wolf (15/8) is the favourite for this one, but we're looking left field at Willoughby's Court (12/1).

Much like the former Somerset bowler of the same name, Willoughby is a consistently reliable performer and should be set to at least place in the first race of the day.

2.10 RSA Chase

Fresh off the back of consecutive victories - the most recent of which was over a similar distance last month - Acapella Bourgeois (6/1) is our pick to take the spoils.

Nicky Henderson's O O Seven (20/1) will tempt those who back the best name, but Acapella should be neither shaken nor stirred in this one.

2.50 Coral Cup

This 26-strong race is a bit of a drop the pin on the coupon affair, but the Paul Nicholls-trained Modus (16/1) has done well at Cheltenham before and would be a good bet to place.

Those brave enough to pick a winner from the crowded field should keep an eye on Peregrine Run (9/1), the form horse of the field who won five consecutive races in the second half of last year.

3.30 Queen Mother Champion Chase

Can anyone stop Douvan (2/7)? Ruby Walsh sits atop the favourite, who will be looking to replicate the success of the similarly well-fancied Altior yesterday.

Those looking elsewhere will be banking on Special Tiara (20/1) or God's Own (14/1) rolling back the years - the former came third in this race last year but the latter comes into the meet in superior form and should push Douvan all the way.

4.10 Cross Country Chase

Strap yourself in for some Somerset success, as Minehead-based trainer Phillip Hobbs could be in for his first winner of the festival in this one with Sausalito Sunrise (14/1).

He has not been at his best of late, but we are backing him to rediscover last season's form on the big stage.

4.50 Fred Winter Juvenile Novices Hurdle

Another strong contender from the Nicky Henderson stable, Domperignon du Lys (10/1) has been beaten just once in four starts to date and should go well.
