DANIELLE Waterman played in England’s opening pool match at the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup this afternoon.

The Red Roses beat Spain 56-5 at the UCD Bowl, Dublin, with the game shown live on ITV4.

Waterman, who was born in Taunton and raised in Minehead, started at full-back, which meant she was appearing at her fourth World Cup.

She was replaced by Emily Scarratt at half time, but during her time on the pitch ‘Nolli’ set up Kay Wilson for her hat-trick try, which put England 24-0 up.

The Red Roses’ next match is against Italy (Sunday, August 13, ko 2.30pm – shown live on ITV1 from 2pm).

Their third and final game in Pool B sees them take on the USA (Thursday, August 17, ko 2.30pm – live on ITV4 from 2pm).
