TAUNTON’s James Macey was among the Team UK members who took on 30 countries in the final of the world’s largest amateur championship in Germany last weekend.

Macey, who plays at Oake Manor, has a handicap of 5. He travelled to Stuttgart for the MercedesTrophy World Final, where he helped Team UK to a seventh-place finish.

Macey, 38, was in action alongside the two other UK golfers - Dean Peruzzi, from Norwich, and Patrick Aherne, from Bexhill.

Over three rounds, they secured a total of 180 Stableford points, leaving them behind eventual winners, Team South Asia, who lifted the Nations Cup.

Macey secured his place in Germany following victory at last year’s MercedesTrophy UK Final, when he beat amateur players from across the country.

He had been invited to the tournament by Mercedes-Benz South West, in Taunton.
